IT'S NOT FUNNY

I don’t know what i was thinking about but I had this impulse to write about depression and anxiety. I am not a psychiatrist, therapist or counsellor I may be studied a thing or two about mental health in my Human Development class but what I am sure of is that anxiety isn’t what they show on social media, depression is not being sad. We Gen Z and millennials assume we know a lot and we are specialists of every field and social media makes everything look so common. Some memes which we usually go through on our instagram mention anxiety and how people say “anxiety kicks my ass every moment”, I feel like bro do you even know the meaning or basic symptoms of anxiety. Mental health has turned out to be a joke and every person on this planet seems like a therapist. “Happiness is a state of mind and it is all within you, you just need to believe that you are happy ” even I used to believe it until the day I realized it’s not so. You can easily give a happiness and gratitude lecture to anyone when you are living your best days without realizing how hard can it be for some people and how helpless one feels when they can’t discover their happiness. Just imagine the mental state of that person who is already so messed up at head and nothing makes sense and you go up and say that “you are not happy because you don’t want to be”, just read it again does it make sense? Who the hell on this earth would wake up and say I don’t want to be happy. One more thing maybe what brings smile on your face isn’t much appreciated by someone else. I love physical workout but my brother hates it , we all have different choices and no choice is superior than the other, obviously excluding corruption, substance abuse and other stuff which isn’t good for your own soul and society.

Now getting back to depression and anxiety, jut sharing some symptoms so that we could know what it actually is and how we at times use these words when we are not supposed to and because of this mismatched arrangement of words the people who are actually prone to these issues get concealed. We make this world even more difficult for them.

Depression is a mood disorder that involves a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It is different from the mood fluctuations that people regularly experience as a part of life.

These are some SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION and if someone shows 5 out of these continuously from 2 weeks or more that person is prone to depression, and anyone of any age group, any economic level, any educational level can be depressed.

·         Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood, especially in the morning

·         Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism

·         Feelings of irritability, frustration‚ or restlessness

·         Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness

·         Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies or activities

·         Decreased energy, fatigue, or being “slowed down”

·         Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions

·         Difficulty sleeping, early morning awakening, or oversleeping

·         Changes in appetite or unplanned weight changes

·         Aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems without a clear physical cause and that do not ease even with treatment

·         Suicide attempts or thoughts of death or suicide

SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY DISORDER

  • nervousness, restlessness, or being tense
  • feelings of danger, panic, or dread
  • rapid heart rate
  • rapid breathing, or hyperventilation
  • increased or heavy sweating
  • trembling or muscle twitching
  • weakness and lethargy
  • difficulty focusing or thinking clearly about anything other than the thing you’re worried about
  • insomnia
  • digestive or gastrointestinal problems, such as gas, constipation, or diarrhea
  • a strong desire to avoid the things that trigger your anxiety
  • obsessions about certain ideas, a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • performing certain behaviors over and over again
  • anxiety surrounding a particular life event or experience that has occurred in the past, especially indicative of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Anxiety got various types namely GAD( Generalized Anxiety Disorder), PTSD( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) , BDD(Body dysmporhic disorder), Health anxiety( when someone spends so much of their time in worrying if they are ill),Hair pulling, Skin picking, OCD( Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) , Phobias, Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic disorder.

I don’t know how many people will read it , maybe a 100  or a 1000, to whosoever reads it, its my appeal to not use mental health terms as if they are cough and cold, it’s a much greater issue. And yes you can always think about good things and refresh your mood but at times that isn’t enough. At ties you aren’t comfortable and finding happiness in such chaos is like finding needle in a haystack.

HAVE A GREAT DAY.

XOXO :)
