HAPPY GURUPURAB TO EVERYONE READING THIS.
Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most prominent festivals celebrated in my country. It is the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji , the first guru of Sikh religion.
The day also serves as an example of the importance of nobility and virtue, spread by Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
I have always loved my religion not because I am born in a Sikh family or because I have no other choice but because the teachings given by Sikh Gurus, reading their quotes give a sense of responsibility towards society, helps me shape my mind , my personality, assists my soul in clearing away all the selfish deeds and be a asset to society and be myself, enjoy the individualism and stay grounded also enjoy royalty and freedom at the same moment. At times I get so overwhelmed that how can I find all my answers at one place and how that ir be all so positive and spiritual rather than restrictions. At times I have tears in my eyes knowing how fortunate I am to understand the meaning of Gurbani and how grateful I am to my parents to give us an upbringing which wasn't so much religious or cultural but spiritual and logical and this somehow connected us to the universe and god in the best way possible. We were never forced to pray but also we were never devoid of the practical teachings and the glorious history of religion.
On this auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti I am over here sharing some of my favorite quotes and teachings given by Guru Nanak Dev ji. His quotes have always helped me and my family to get over hardships and have a clear mindset.
"He who has no faith in himself can never have faith in God."
"Death would not be called bad, O people, if one knew how to truly die."
"Conquer your mind and conquer the world."
"The world is a drama staged in a dream."
“Even Kings and emperors with heaps of wealth and vast dominion cannot compare with an ant filled with the love of God.”
“Dwell in peace in the home of your own being, and the Messenger of Death will not be able to touch you.”
"Only fools argue whether to eat meat or not. They don't understand truth, nor do they meditate on it. Who can define what is meat and what is plant? Who knows where the sin lies, being a vegetarian."
“Burn worldly love,
rub the ashes and make ink of it,
make the heart the pen,
the intellect the writer,
write that which has no end or limit.”
“I am neither male nor female, nor am I sexless. I am the Peaceful One, whose form is self-effulgent, powerful radiance.”
"If the people use the wealth bestowed on them by God for themselves alone or for treasuring it, it is like a corpse. But if they decide to share it with others, it becomes sacred food."
"What should the yogi have to fear? Trees, plants, and all that is inside and outside, is He Himself."
"Asceticism doesn't lie in mere words; He is an ascetic who treats everyone alike. Asceticism doesn't lie in visiting burial places; it lies not in wandering about nor in bathing at places of pilgrimage. Asceticism is to remain pure amidst impurities."
"Alone let him constantly meditate in solitude on that which is salutary for his soul, for he who meditates in solitude attains supreme bliss."
"I am not the born; how can there be either birth or death for me?"
“Realization of Truth is higher than all else. Higher still is truthful living.”
“Speak only that which will bring you honor.”
“Owing to ignorance of the rope the rope appears to be a snake; owing to ignorance of the Self the transient state arises of the individualized, limited, phenomenal aspect of the Self.”
“There is but one God. True is His Name, creative His personality and immortal His form. He is without fear sans enmity, unborn and self-illumined. By the Guru's grace He is obtained.”
“In this world
when you ask of happiness
Pain steps forward”
"He who regards all men as equals is religious."
There are worlds and more worlds below them, and there are a hundred thousand skies over them. No one has been able to find the limits and boundaries of God. If there be any account of God, then alone the mortal can write the same; but God's account does not finish, and the mortal himself dies while still writing
Vand Chhako- Sharing with others, helping those with less or those who are in need.
Kirat Karo (work diligently)- Earning/making a living honestly, without exploitation or fraud.
Naam Japo (contemplating God's names)- Meditating on God's name to control the five evils and living a satisfying life.
You need a mentor to guide you on how to live right. In Guru Nanak Ji’s words, living right is much superior to visiting pilgrimage destinations.
Being selfless is the supreme duty of human beings. For Nanak, the concept of selfless service was a way of life.
Ego, Anger, Greed, Attachment and Lust, these are the 5 evils that one should shun. Any of this 5 evil, makes life miserable.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached against superstitions, false rituals, worship of demi-gods and goddesses. He stressed that only One God, the Formless, is to be glorified. In this way, he showed the path of truth and enlightenment.
Guru Nanak Dev ji was strongly against all artificially created divisions and all discrimination, both in word and deed. He said that the caste of a person is based on what he does. His idea of a caste-free society transpired also in his concepts of Sangat and Pangat.
He believed with kindness every problem can be tackled.
I am so short of words this moment and realizing how we have altered the teachings of our Gurus and transformed this in world into a havoc into a disaster.
I am not well versed with all the religious books,( which I aim to read and understand) but I am pretty sure every religion wanted to make this world a better place to live in.
We blindly follow what meaning of religion was told to us , we read holy books at times without even realizing the true context and essence of the text. It's all so political now with no love and kindness. We do stuff in the name of religion what god would have never wanted from us.
From preachers to warriors we have transformed for good but this is possibly the worst of humanity.
I am not a saint, just a teenage girl who is still waking up from a nap.
